Welcome!

Josh Cutler and family

I'm Josh Cutler and I'm running for State Representative for the 6th Plymouth District (Pembroke, Duxbury, Hanson and Halifax).

As a newspaper editor I’ve always stood up for the public interest.  As a small business owner I know the value of a dollar hard-earned and well-spent.  As a former Selectman and Planning Board member I understand how to make government work for us.  Put it together and you get a representative who will fight to improve our quality of life and bring a fresh approach to Beacon Hill.

If you’re ready for a change I’d be honored to earn your vote on November 2.

What people are saying...

“Josh took the time to sit with me in my kitchen, to listen to what my thoughts and opinions were.  He will truly represent the people of this district in an open and honest way!”
– Terry McSweeney, Hanson Board of Health

"Josh is just the kind of open-minded, hard-working representative we need up at the State House."
– Lew Stone, Pembroke Selectman

"I've known Josh for more than 12 years. He's a man of his word and shares my philosophy of being fair, firm and consistent."
– Troy Garron, Halifax Selectman

“Josh doesn’t care if it’s a Republican idea or a Democratic idea, so long as it’s a good idea. He’ll always put our district first.”
– Joe Pelligra, Former Hanson Republican Town Committee member

“Josh is a person who gets things done. He’ll be an effective representative for hard-working Hanson families.”
–– Kathy DiPasqua-Egan, Chairwoman, Hanson Democratic Town Committee

"Cutler has been everywhere. You can't got to a function or meeting or farmer's market or ball field without running into Josh Cutler."
–– Arthur Boyle, Pembroke Selectman

"When it comes to zoning and land-use issues, Josh will fight against the one-size fits all mentality that too often emanates from Beacon Hill."
– Jon Witten, former Duxbury Selectman

"I serve with Josh on the Planning Board and have been so impressed by his commitment to the environmental concerns of Duxbury and the entire South Shore.  Additionally he always examines an issue with great thought, never afraid to ask the difficult questions, while treating all who come before our board with great respect."
– Cynthia Ladd-Fiorini, Duxbury Planning Board member

“Josh will be a voice for reform and fiscal responsibility on Beacon Hill.”
– Libby Bates, Pembroke Board of Assessors

“I believe Josh Cutler would be an excellent representative.  Josh’s support of open space protection and long-term planning is a big reason why Duxbury remains beautiful and offers a great quality of life.  His efforts also keep our taxes lower by ensuring balanced growth.”
– David Hines, Duxbury

"I support Josh, because as a former Selectman and a member of the Planning Board, Josh understands the diverse needs of our municipalities and knows first-hand how actions at the state level affect local government. This is essential to protecting the interests of our towns from un-funded mandates and burdensome regulation."
– Andre Martecchini, former Duxbury Selectman

“Josh is a strong advocate for public education and will fight to ensure our schools are fully and fairly funded."
– Jim Rodick, South Shore Vo-Tech School Committee member

"As a former Selectman, Josh understands that local government is where the rubber meets the road."
– Dan Trabucco, Pembroke Selectman

"Josh has a record of working with people to achieve community goals and get results."
– Brian VanRiper, Pembroke Planning Board

"Josh is a hard worker who'll bring common sense and the right mix of experience to Beacon Hill."
– Bill Cullity, former Pembroke Selectman

“As a full-time representative, Josh will put constituent service first and be an effective voice for us on Beacon Hill.”
–Teresa Santalucia, Hanson Housing Authority

"Josh is a strong advocate of advancing alternative and renewable energy use in Massachusetts.  As a member of the Duxbury Alternative Energy Committee, Josh has been especially helpful in facilitating the possibility of bringing a community scale wind turbine to Duxbury. We need this type of support on Beacon Hill."
–– Frank Duggan, Chairman, Duxbury Alternative Energy Committee

"Josh Cutler has consistently fought for open and accountable government. He's just the kind of leader we need on Beacon Hill."
– Dan Taylor, Pembroke Planning Board

"There are occasions when the quality and potential of a candidate earn the support of every voter, regardless of party affiliation.  Josh Cutler is such a candidate.  The people of the 6th Plymouth District will benefit from his independence, full-time commitment, and the energy and ability to deliver valuable constituent services."
–– Dr. Gerard A. Lozeau, Hanson

"Josh is highly dedicated to the community and his small business background wil serve us well in the state legislature."
–– Kathleen Keegan, Pembroke real estate agent

"Josh listens.  An open mind and common sense are qualities that may change the culture on Beacon Hill."
– Harold Moody, Duxbury Planning Board member

"Josh Cutler strikes me as being earnest, hard-working and well-prepared to represents the residents of this district."
– Don Anderson, Pembroke Selectman

"Josh will be a strong advocate for sustainable energy solutions at the State House. He understands that alternative energy is a foundation for creating new jobs."
– Matt York, Pembroke Planning Board

"I'm supporting Josh because he'll bring accountability and fiscal responsibility to the State House."
– Lisa Cullity, Pembroke Board of Health

"Josh understands the needs of public schools. He is in favor of better funding and allowing local regulation within state guidelines, not the other way around.  He believes that our teachers should have the ability to teach students without overwhelming and excessive regulation.  Our schools would benefit with Josh Cutler at the state house."
- Derek M Bennett,  Halifax Elementary School Committee

"Josh is a person of great compassion and integrity. He is a doer and believes in a strong commitment to public education, affordable health care and protection for our senior citizens and neediest residents."
– Phil Johnston, former Secretary of Health and Human Services

"Josh Cutler has the skills, knowledge and attitude that should be representing us at the State House."
– Joseph O'Sullivan, Hanson educator

"I have known Josh Cutler for many years and am proud to support his candidacy for state rep. Josh is a fine young man of many talents. He will bring to the Massachusetts Legislature enthusiasm, commitment, new ideas, and integrity. He knows his constituents and what we want from our rep: availability, independent thinking, and a willingness to advocate on our behalf.
– Margaret Kearney, Duxbury Selectman, 1993-2002

"Among the candidates running for this seat, Josh Cutler is the most qualified to carry on with the mission to better the lives of the working men and woman of the Commonwealth... We look forward to working with him in the creation of jobs and in any other areas that will better the lives of all the working men and woman of the 6th Plymouth District."
– Robert L. Rizzi, President, Norfolk Labor Council

"What we need is representation by a hard-working, honest and intelligent person who will put the needs of our district first. I believe we have found the right representative in Josh Cutler.  Josh's background in small business & his involvement in community service (having been a selectman and planning board member) make him the perfect choice this November!"
– Denise Rannou, Halifax Realtor

"You've got to give it to Selectman Josh Cutler. While other candidates for public office make all kinds of promises they have no intention of keeping. Cutler has put his time and talents to the townspeople's benefit on several important initiatives -- most notably the subcommittee studying the feasibility of municipal trash pickup and recycling, and now one to design and implement a municipal government website."
– Hull Times editorial, 2/24/2000

My father was my biggest suporter and one of my best friends. He died on February 28 at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer. This photo was taken two days prior when he received a visit from U.S. Marine corps soliders who presented him with this Vietnam-era hat. We miss him greatly.

Family BBQ & Kid's Day
Friday, 16 July 2010 18:07

Join us on Saturday afternoon for a casual BBQ outdoors at the Winsor House (390 Washington Street) to help kick off our campaign in Duxbury!

We've got a balloon animal maker, lots of crafts and activities for the kids and of course great outdoor bbq (chicken, burgers & hot dogs) cooked up by the folks at the Winsor House. The event runs from 2-5 pm on Saturday.

The suggested donation is just $10 (and all kids free) but we welcome "freeloaders" and anyone who just wants to come by and have a great family time. While we'd like to raise some money for the campaign, the real purpose is to have a chance to get together and enjoy each other's company and give the kids a chance to play and make new friends. The latest weather reports look great, and we have a tent just in case. Hope to see you then!

Rest in peace Rep. Nyman
Sunday, 27 June 2010 18:32
Rep Nyman

I was very saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Hanover State Rep. Bob Nyman. I can't say I knew Bob too well, but in my brief encounters I found him to be a genuinely warm person with a great sense of humor who was always ready with a kind word or gesture. In fact the last time I saw him, about two weeks ago, he was offering kinds words to me on the death of my father earlier this year. Bob strikes me as the kind of person who got into public service for all the right reasons. I know his family and those he served will miss him terribly. There is a nice article in the Globe that captures a slice of his life and his devotion to helping others.  Visiting hours are being held on Tuesday and Wednesday at Hanover Town Hall with a funeral Mass on Thursday.
