Eye on Duxbury: The Duxbury Clipper
by Jennifer Bruni

There are the Boston dailies, the free metro papers, the Brockton Enterprise and Quincy Patriot Ledger, plus the scores of local weeklies, all owned by giant Gatehouse Media. It’s a lonely but encouraging place to be for Josh Cutler, whose grandparents, John and Roberta Cutler, founded the weekly over a game of cards in 1950. They operated the newspaper into the 1990s, before they died and their son and grandson officially took over... Read full article.

A leader on Campaign Finance Reform

Twelve years ago, as a younger, slimmer –– though no less gray-haired! –– candidate, Josh ran for state legislature. He lost by less than 250 votes, but earned state-wide recognition for his innovative use of the Internet and for being the first candidate in state history to release and post campaign finance reports online. Today it is standard practice (see OCPF website), but as this article in the Patriot Ledger makes clear, back in 1998 it was anything but. Then, as now, Josh believes that transparency in government is always the best policy.

A voice for open government

Hull Times editorial

Before moving back to his hometown of Duxbury, Josh served as an elected member of the Hull Board of Selectmen. As this political cartoon in the Hull Times makes clear, Josh wasn't shy about speaking up when the public's right to know was in question. For his courage in standing up against a policy of closed-door meetings Josh was applauded by the paper as the "sole advocate of the people's right to know."
