Lyme Disease update

Thanks to all who reached out regarding the Lyme Disease insurance legislation. Tonight I'm pleased to report that we were able to override the veto so that the original language passed by the legislature will stand. This means that patients will be able to get insurance coverage for long-term antibiotic treatment when recommended by their doctor. This is a major victory that has been a long time in the making.

I was pleased to be co-sponsor of the original bill filed by my colleague Rep. David Linsky. The epidemic of Lyme Disease has been felt particularly hard here on the South Shore and this landmark change will help many patients who are suffering the debilitating affects of this illness and have had to pay thousands and thousands of dollars out of their own pockets to get necessary medical treatment. Thank you to all of my colleagues for supporting this, especially Rep. Linsky and Rep. Jim Cantwell, and for all of you who spoke out and advocated for this measure. I don't want to be overly dramatic but I truly believe this will literally change lives. For those that are interested I encourage you to watch this program we hosted last month in Pembroke on Lyme Disease featuring a Harvard medical school doctor. https://youtu.be/WrdSrqX83CE
