Visit with State Treasurer Steve Grossman

On the day we had two major school project votes it was very fitting that Steve Grossman, Chairman of the Mass. School Building Authority visited our district at my invitation. Thanks to the MSBA under Steve's leadership, Pembroke will see more than a 50% match in state funds to pay for our new school roofs. And in Hanson while voters decided not to move ahead with the current plan, when there is a consensus reached on how to fix our Maquan school we will be able to partner with the MSBA for a similar match. In both cases saving the towns and taxpayers millions of dollars. And finally in Duxbury, we already have a major new school project scheduled for completion later this year that was paid for in part with $50 million in state funds, all derived from dedicated revenue stream of one penny from our state sales tax. The MSBA has really become a model program to help cash-strapped cities and towns fund necessary school infrastructure projects, collectively saving us millions in interest and debt service costs as well as auditing all projects to make sure every nut and bolt is accounted for. Thanks to Steve for coming down to our district last night and for sticking around afterwards for a friendly game of pool. (He's pretty good at that too!)
